Engage the world the same way Jesus did! Be with…

  • To encounter God more deeply, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church takes it as a given that God is at work ahead of us in our city and in the world.

  • The Mission Task Force exists to prayerfully discern where God is calling us to meet our Charlotte neighbors in discovering and supporting long-term friendships, partnerships, and enterprises.

  • The members of the Mission Task Force will always lead and respond with friendship (without attempting to fix first), which will naturally lead to exciting partnerships and projects.

  • We know that Christ is in our midst, and our life with our Charlotte neighbors is always our starting point.

2020-2025 Missional Focus:

Housing Justice Advocacy in Charlotte and in North Carolina

and

Friendship and Support with the Galilee Ministries of East Charlotte

St. Martin’s volunteers conduct tenant phone canvassing to support Renters Rising/Action NC organizing efforts, 2023.

Housing Justice Advocacy:

Hundreds of evections are processed in Mecklenburg County each day.

  • Being evicted can be a scary and stressful experience for a tenant.

  • Some tenants may be at a disadvantage if they are able to afford a lawyer and are unaware of their basic legal rights.

  • Tenants may be able to increase their chances of avoiding eviction by learning about the eviction process and their basic legal rights.

Friendship and Support with Galilee Ministries of East Charlotte (GMEC)

What is Galilee Ministries?

  • Galilee Ministries of East Charlotte (GMEC) is a special mission of the diocese of North Carolina. The Galilee center shares space with other non-profits who provide direct services and programs to individuals who are currently refugees, immigrants, and neighbors in East Charlotte. Galilee’s indoor and outdoor spaces are shared with community organizations for the purpose of “feeding body, mind, and spirit”. Learn more about GMEC at www.gmcharlotte.org.

What is StM’s connection to the Galilee Center/Galilee Ministries?

  • St. Martin’s has a long, rich history of supporting Galilee via the Nourish Up program (formerly Loaves and Fishes), caring for the grounds and buildings, participating in special events, and youth involvement as well as board and committee participation over several years. St. Martin’s Task Force also contributes funds annually to the Galilee Center.
