A Missional Focus for St. Martin’s

Engage the world the same way Jesus did! Be with…

To encounter God more deeply, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church takes it as a given that God is at work ahead of us in our city and in the world. The Mission Task Force exists to prayerfully discern where God is calling us to meet our Charlotte neighbors in discovering and supporting long-term friendships, partnerships, and enterprises. The members of the Mission Task Force will always lead and respond with friendship (without attempting to fix first), which will naturally lead to exciting partnerships and projects. We know that Christ is in our midst, and our life with our Charlotte neighbors is always our starting point.

During 2019-2020, the St. Martin’s Episcopal Mission Task Force members, led by Father Josh, looked deeply into our Church’s mission work and the Mission Task Force’s role at St. Martin’s. This intentional “Season of Listening for God’s Call” was an experimental and experiential period of reflection during which the Mission Task Force participated in community activities with our neighbors, reflected through group worship, and participated in discussions about what was learned.

With listening hearts, the Task Force explored the following issues in our community: Food Scarcity, Housing & Homelessness, and Children & Education. In October 2020, the Mission Task Force members established two long-term mission areas to focus on through advocacy, education, and in partnership with our faith community and neighbors:

Housing Justice Advocacy in Charlotte and in North Carolina

and

Friendship and Support with the Galilee Ministries of East Charlotte

Housing Justice Advocacy

Over the 2022-2023 Program Year, the now rebranded Mission Task Force shared three new Housing Justice volunteer opportunities at St. Martin’s in Adult Formation.
